Corfu: 3 Days on Greece's Venetian Island!

Love brought us to the Greek island of Corfu. We were invited to a dream wedding. And with the romantic Venetian architecture a very understandable choice.

Old streets in the old center of Corfu

Highlights⚑️

The old center of Corfu town is a picturesque town, like walking into a fairy tale. The old houses combined with the old population make it a cute environment. The town is full of restaurants and shops: including delicious Greek traditional food! You also don't have to bring all your summer clothes with you, there are plenty of nice shops with the perfect summer outfits. And in addition to the great beaches, you can also include a cultural activity in the program: a fortress from 1500 and an old Greek Orthodox monastery.

  • The old fortress of Corfu πŸ°

If you are lucky, you can already see this fort from the plane. This ancient fortress not only offers a phenomenal view of the city, but also of Albania!

  • Old streets of Corfu 🏘️

The iconic streetscape are the small streets where the laundry hangs outside from one side to the other side of the street. We got lost in the city and went to the most adorable places.

  • Swimming at Faliraki beach 🏊‍♀️

Because we did not have time to visit several beaches on Corfu (highly recommended!) We have been to the city beach where you can enter the bright blue sea with pedals.

Shopping in Corfu

Location of our Airbnb

Lowlights πŸ˜”

Corfu also has the real tourist accommodations and resorts. Something we don't like to come to ourselves! When you book an accommodation in Corfu, pay attention to whether it is easy to travel (Corfu is large and hilly) and is not a tourist resort.

Location and transportation πŸš•

Corfu has several great places and beaches. We were only there for 3 days and have therefore chosen to rent an apartment in the old town without a car. We had a very nice Airbnb fully equipped for 50 euros per night. There are plenty of taxis here that will take you anywhere on the island. Please note: if you are taken to a beach, make sure you book a taxi back in advance.

When food = life πŸ₯—

The food on the island is great! You can indulge yourself here with the real traditional Greek food, but, with all the Venetian influences, also delicious Italian food! The coffee here is also of good quality. Heads up for the people of Amsterdam: there is no oat milk for your cappuccino or flat white.

Pane e Souvlaki

Best coffee: Coconella β˜•οΈ

A hip place where you can get good coffee after shopping.

Best Souvlaki spot πŸ‡¬πŸ‡·

Pane e Souvlaki is the perfect spot for a Greek lunch. With a beautiful balcony overlooking the old town house and plates in all shades of pink, you can find delicious grilled meat here. You've also come to the right place for salads!

Best seafood with a view πŸ : En Plo

This restaurant has a very nice view on the fortress and on Albania. We had a delicious lunch here with fresh fish. Highly recommended!

Venetian well octopus carpaccio

Refined breakfast 🍳 Gabao

In one of the idyllic side streets of the old town you have the restaurant Gabao. From delicious eggs, to pancakes or Greek yogurt. You've come to the right place!

People watching: coffee and drinks at Josephine Café πŸ‘€

Do you feel like grabbing a terrace and observing people? This is the right address! With some typical Greek locals in a row enjoying their espresso, this is a nice place to watch people pass by.

Ambelonas Vinyards

In love with wine? 🍷Ambelonas Vinyards

A true gem is hidden in the hills about fifteen minutes from the old town. Ambelonas wine! There is a great vineyard, run by a family full of tradition.  Including the most amazing sunset!

High end diner: Venetian Well 🎩

Venetian Well's food is highly priced compared to other restaurants but has a refined kitchen.

We would have loved to stay longer on this Greek idyllic island to explore more beaches. A local gave us the beaches: Palaiokastritsa beach and Pelekas beach. We definitely want to go back again!
