Rum, salsa and cigars 🇨🇺

The Cuban Revolution was a series of uprisings in Cuba by Fidel Castro, with the help of his brother Raúl Castro and Che Guevara, that overthrew dictator Fulgencio Batista on December 31, 1958. Hundreds of thousands of Cubans fled after the revolution. What they left behind were tens of thousands of beautiful cars, which the remaining Cubans love to drive in.

These cars are very typical of the street scene of Cuba, just like the colored colonial houses, cigars and rum. Cuban cigars are known as the best cigars in the world. With an annual production of approximately 180 million cigars, it is one of Cuba's main sources of income, alongside rum.

Step back in time with a roadtrip through Cuba

I turned 30 and wanted to celebrate with my boyfriend abroad. Cuba was at the top of my bucket list because I wanted to go there before the country came into contact with western influences. In Cuba you really go back in time. Vintage cars in different colors, rum, cigars, and salsa - I was totally into it. We planned a 3-week trip but ended up staying 9 days.
