Finland is located in Northern Europe and part of Scandinavia. It shares borders with Sweden to the west, Norway to the north and Russia to the east. Helsinki is the capital and also the largest city in the country. The official languages are Finnish and Swedish, of which Finnish is the most widely spoken and has a reputation for its complex grammar.
Finland is known for its breathtaking nature. About 70% of the country is covered by forests and there are thousands of lakes and islands. This is also why it is a popular destination for those who enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking and skiing and for those who have the Northern Lights on their bucket list!
Together with a colleague I went to a conference in Helsinki. We spent a day exploring the city. Beforehand, I never thought that we would be able to see so much in one day. And guess what? We did everything on foot.
