The United States is a federal republic consisting of 50 states with its capital in Washington, D.C. It is located in North America, and is the third largest country in the world in terms of total area and population. America has a rich history that begins with Native American people, followed by colonization by European powers in the 16th century. In 1776, the thirteen colonies declared their independence from Great Britain, leading to the American Revolution. After a long struggle, independence was formally recognized in 1783.
The US has a diverse population with people from different ethnic, cultural and religious backgrounds. English is the most widely spoken language, but many other languages are also in use due to the large immigrant population. These immigrants often come to America for the 'American Dream'; the belief in the possibility of individual success and prosperity through hard work and dedication. It symbolizes people's aspirations to improve their lives and achieve their goals.
