When we took a taxi in Singapore, I asked the driver what it's like to live there. “I don't live here,” he said. He took the bus from Kuala Lumpur for four hours to get to Singapore, and then four hours back every day, because you could earn some good money in Singapore. It all made sense after our trip to Singapore. Everything in Singapore is expensive, like you're not in Asia anymore. On the other hand, everything is very well organized and it is clean!

Highlightsβ‘οΈ
- Changi Airport; this airport is an experience in itself; gardens, playgrounds, cinemas, there is a waterfall and a swimming pool. Most people would be disappointed if they were stranded at an airport, but not at this airport! It's just an extra day of vacationing π
- Shopping mall 'the Shoppes'; perfect for a day of window shopping, because this is the place where you will find the luxury brands. The nice thing about this mall, is that there is a canal where you can actually sail a boat. We made the mistake of having breakfast in this mall, at one of those places where the prices are not on the menu. We paid 95 euros for two persons ββπ₯
- Gardens by the Bay; these beautiful gardens are definitely worth a visit! You can wander here for hours and take beautiful pictures. You can buy a ticket here π±
- Singapore flyer; For a beautiful view of the city, hop on this Ferris wheel. Buy your ticket here π‘
Lowlights π΅π«
- Singapore is a very expensive destination. You can save money by at least traveling by public transport and, for example, buying your breakfast and lunch at the supermarket π€
- There are those very nice food courts, also known as Hawker centres, where you can get street food. I got food poisoning here. This can happen anywhere of course, but I learned my lesson and no longer eat meat when I get street food π₯‘
- Smog! The air is polluted and you can see it. It's warm outside, but because of the smog there is no sun to be seen π¨

Accommodation and transportation π
Stay
I first saw the Marina Bay Sands resort on Instagram. The pictures of the infinity pool on top of the roof made me want to go here at least once. So when we planned our trip, I booked an one night's stay (€750) at this hotel. But, lucky me (!), I had booked a 'free cancellation' room and I saw the price of the room drop as our travel date approached. In the end I canceled the reservation 9 times (π«£) and we paid €250 for one night.
Staying in this hotel for several days was not an option on a budget, so we also stayed a night in Kampong Glam (the Arab district of Singapore) where we found a place for €80 per night. You can also eat delicious and cheap food in this district and it is a short walk to Bugis Street, where you can do some shopping for normal prices!
Transport
Taxis in Singapore are very expensive, so avoid them if you can! Download the app 'Grab' (Asian Uber) or take public transport. Public transport is very well organized and will take you to your destination for a few euros.

Tap water is safe to consume

The name Singapore is derived from the Sanskrit words "Singa" (lion) and "Pura" (city), meaning "Lion City"
Singapore is amazing! It cannot be compared to other Asian destinations, but definitely worth a short visit! Make sure you bring some extra cash though π
Bye!
